A guide to painting Napoleonic French 1st Hussars.
The brightly coloured, gaudy, heavily decorated uniforms of the hussar regiments can be a difficult proposition to paint. This is a fairly in-depth look at painting the French 1st Hussars in pelisse for the earlier period – up to around 1808.
Colours used:
Primed black from below, grey from the sides and GW Wraithbone from above.
The pre-shading was intensified with GW Wraithbone from the pot along with Vallejo model colour off-white, and Army Painter Dark Tone Quickshade wash.
Vallejo Glaze Medium was used to thin the blues used.
