Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2021 Honda CRV, we're going to be showing you how to install the CURT Class 2 Trailer Hitch Receiver. But before we do that, I'm gonna check it out and make sure that this is the right hitch for you. So right off the bat, there is something that I do want to address we get a lot of questions about it with the 21 CRV. And that is, is a hitch going to interfere with the hands-free lift gate assist And with this one as well as many of the other hitches, the answer is yes. By putting the hitch on you are going to have to remove that sensor.

If your vehicle don't come equipped with it, not really a big deal. If it's something that, you know, you don't use anyway, not really a huge deal. But if you're wanting to maintain that hitch through lift gate assist feature and use a hitch, the good news is there's a solution. Honda actually offers, it's a bracket more or less. Essentially, it's kind of a whole replacement sensor, but it's, they changed it a little bit.

That way it can fit around the hitch and you can still have the hitch and the hands-free lift gate assist. So before we kind of got too carried away, it's just something that I wanted to address to make sure that, you know, you know about it. But other than that, having a hitch on the back of the CRV, it does make sense. You know, these are really popular, really versatile, and people use them to do a lot of different things. But that said, with this hitch here being the smaller inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter, that's just one would probably interest me if I was really only planning on let's say using one accessory like a bike rack, for example.

And that was really about it. You know, I already had the accessory and really wasn't planning on doing much else other than that. With that said, if you're someone that, you know, wants to do a little bit of towing or wants to change up accessories every now and again, or things like that, the Class 3, 2 inch by 2 inch hitches might be a little better option for you. Having that bigger opening, you know, they're a little more capable and you can use them to do a few more different things. With that said, I do think the hitch looks pretty good though.

For the most part is going to be completely hidden. Honestly the only thing you're really going to be able to see is the receiver tube opening there so no it's not really going to take away from the looks of your CRV by any means. Since it does have this smaller opening it's going to measure an inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter in size. At the end we're going to have a reinforced collar for a little bit of extra support. And it is going to use that standard half in size pin and clip. Keep in mind that pin and clip do not come included, but if you need one, not a huge deal, you can grab it right here at etrailer. And the safety chain openings are, you know, relatively decent in size and should allow us to use just about any size hook that we might have. As far as hitches weight capacities go, it's going to have a 350 pound maximum gross tongue weight rating and that's going to be the amount of weight that's pushing down on the hitch. So relatively high number. You should be able to use two and three potentially even four bike racks just to give you an example. As far as the hitches maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's going to be 3,500 pounds, and that's going to be the amount of weight that is pulling on the hitch. So that is the weight of the trailer plus anything that you might have on it. I do always like to suggest so never a bad idea just to drive your home as owner's manual that way you can make sure your CRV can pull that much weight safely. Let's go ahead and just grab a couple of measurements, that way we can try to figure out which hitch mounted accessories or work out best. So if you go from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, it's going to be right at about 13 and a half inches. So if you plan on doing some light duty towing, chances are pretty good you're going to need to get a ball mount that has a rise and a shane. If you go from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's going to be about an inch and a half. And you can use that measurement to figure out exactly if any of those folding type accessories you might have can be stored in the upright position without hitting the back of your Honda. So at the end of the day, if the inch and a quarter size hitch is definitely the one that you want, I honestly think that this is probably the best choice. And I really just say that because
