Independent Samples T-Test Tutorial in SPSS

Описание к видео Independent Samples T-Test Tutorial in SPSS

This video will help you in conducting a independent (two sample) t-test in SPSS and interpret its results.

Prerequisites
===========
🎥 Please don't forget that an a priori sample size calculation is usually required. This is shown here:    • Two sample t-test - calculate require...

🎥 The assumptions of normal distribution of the test variable per group and equal variances across the two groups will be shown in a separate video (   • Independent samples t-test in SPSS - ...  ).

Content
=======
The video consists of the following three parts:
1) Testing the assumption of equal variances with an eye-test and the Levene's test.

2) Calculation of the two sample t-test, including the effect size Cohen's d, in case of a significant difference between the means of the two groups.

3) The interpretation of the results, especially the effect size Cohen's d, in case of a significant test result.

Basic information on the two sample t-test
==================================
The two sample t-test is a statistical test that is used to determine whether two groups differ significantly from eachother in regard to a test variable.

The p-value of the two sample t-test is the probability that the difference between the the two groups is due to chance. If the p-value is below a certain threshold (usually 0.05), you can reject the null hypothesis and conclude that a significant difference exists.

Alternatively, when failing the requirements of normal distribution and a test variable on interval or ratio level, you can fall back on the sample Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon-test. If your variances however are not equal, you can use the Welch-t-Test.
