NEW FOREST WALK at PENNINGTON MARSHES (NEW FOREST NATIONAL PARK)

Описание к видео NEW FOREST WALK at PENNINGTON MARSHES (NEW FOREST NATIONAL PARK)

This is another video in my series “New Forest Walks” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode I take a 3 mile circular route from Lower Pennington which is located South of Lymington (Hampshire) – just off the A337.

I park my car at The Chequers Pub in the village & head South down Lower Woodside Road (there are further car parking spots along the side of this road). I then follow a shaded path past a private lake belonging to Pennington House (there are glimpses of the house on the right hand side) which takes me on to another minor single track road that comes to a dead end at the edge of the Pennington Marshes (part of the Lymington & Keyhaven Nature Reserve).

A long straight grass track takes me to the shoreline where there is a small jetty from which I enjoy stunning views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. To the West I can see Hurst Castle in the distance (I explored that in my Keyhaven video walk).

After letting Logan enjoy some fun in the sea, I follow the Solent Way along the sea wall towards the East. The sea is calm and has a beautiful deep blue colour in the glorious sunshine.

As I wander along the path I can make out the Royal Lymington Yacht club “starting platform” (used for races) and the famous “Jack in the Basket” marker pole out in the Solent. On the shore side, there is still evidence of “Salterns” - the old enclosures made to trap sea water & make salt in the past – now reverted back to lagoons used by the wildlife.

My route then takes me North past the Moses Dock (the last remaining navigable dock in the area) and two wonderful 18th century salt boiling houses before the final path back to the pub.
