Historic Death Valley Gold Mine-Indian Claim aka Monarch Canyon Mine and Stamp Mill + Bonus Explore

Описание к видео Historic Death Valley Gold Mine-Indian Claim aka Monarch Canyon Mine and Stamp Mill + Bonus Explore

The hike to this remote mine in Death Valley takes us through a beautiful canyon. The first thing we saw at the mine site was a very long and steep ore chute coming down the mountain and ending at an ore bin and stamp mill. After examining the mill we headed up to the mine. The workings are quite interesting despite not being huge in size. There are three levels connected by ladders that we checked out. While back outside we noticed another nearby portal and were surprised to find a very interesting and colorful mine there.
After he discovered a gold ledge in 1903, a Shoshone Indian named Johnny Hughes showed his find to A.K. Ishmael, who located the claim in December of 1904. In 1905 two men, Frank Durham and Burdon Gaylord, obtained a lease from Ishmael and work on the mine began. After finding ore that was valuable enough to warrant a mill, a two stamp was purchased and installed in the spring of 1910. As it turns out only one small shipment of gold ever came out of the Indian Mine and the mill was never run again after October 1910.
