Daniel Slaman - A guitar maker's life with wood and strings

A Documentary about guitar maker Daniel Slaman.

Daniel Slaman is a guitar maker based in The Hague. He used to build classical guitars but has been focusing on jazz guitars for a long time now, primarily archtop guitars. He is one of the few builders who use Charlie Christian pickups in their guitars.
I first became aware of him when I saw Pat Metheny at the Kölner Philharmonie with a Slaman guitar in his hand. I then visited Daniel in 2019 and was very impressed by his craft and also fell deeply in love with a guitar he made.
As part of a project at my university, I wanted to share these insights. This led me to the idea of filming a documentary.
Many thanks to my brother and cameraman Samuel Haeseler. We both were able to accompany Daniel for a weekend in April 2024 and had a great time with him in The Hague.
I tried to present in this documentary Daniel's life, career and his craft.
Many thanks also to the great guitarist Miles Okazaki for allowing me to use excerpts from his music for this documentary. He plays Charlie Christian pickups and represents the sound perfectly for this documentary.
