What is Axes of Movement? What is Axes of Movement?

Good question. There are 3 Axes of movement :

Anterior-Posterior Axes = this is like having a skewer through your belly button - it causes lateral flexion. Of move it to your shoulder or hip and it causes adduction and abduction. All of these movement are in the Frontal Plane.

Medial-Lateral Axes - Is like you are a Foosball player, with a stick through your side. They turn the skewer, which moves the joint into flexion or extension. This corresponds to the Sagittal Plane.

Longitudinal Axes- Think hog roast is a skewer down the length of your spine (think long). Rotating this skewer causes rotation and horizontal flexion.

make sure you are aware of all three of these for your Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology exam, as it will come up.
