Since ancient times, the Chinese people have surmounted great difficulties with their dauntless spirit, and their monumental deeds have been enshrined in history. Composed for student orchestras, Dauntless integrates exercises on fundamental technique and glides that portray stylistic nuances of Chinese music. The forceful orchestral tutti opening leads to the dignified and resolute “martial” theme. This contrasts with the tender and elegant “literary” theme in the middle section featuring the plucked-string instruments. Finally, the “martial” theme is recapitulated, building up to a climactic conclusion. These two themes reflect the Chinese idiom “to be adept at both the pen and the sword” and encourage youths to brave challenges with tenacity.

古往今来，华人以无畏的精神排除万难，谱写出辉煌的历史篇章。乐曲《无畏》专为学生乐团而创作，结合了基本功练习及表现华乐韵味的滑音。乐曲以铿锵有力的大合奏开始，引入傲然坚韧的【武】主题。中段的【文】主题以弹拨为主，温文优雅。曲末重现【武】主题，将乐曲推向高潮。两个主题激励“文武双全”的新生代学子坚强地面对挑战。
