Sheriff Hall G V I 1

Описание к видео Sheriff Hall G V I 1

During the FY2025 budget work session on March 5, 2024, Sheriff Steve Hall addressed the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County regarding gun violence and the efforts of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office to tackle this issue. The Group Violence Intervention (GVI) Program stands out as a proactive measure, recognizing that traditional policing methods alone do not address the underlying causes of firearm-related crimes, such as family distress, education, employment, and housing issues.

Implemented as an evidence-based strategy, GVI leverages existing local resources in St. Mary’s County and fosters collaboration among the Sheriff’s Office and key partners, including the Health Department, Department of Juvenile Services, Department of Social Services, State’s Attorney’s Office, and faith-based organizations. Together, these stakeholders directly engage with offenders, potential offenders, victims, and potential victims to intervene and provide support.

Through monthly Custom Notifications, participants receive personalized information, empowerment, and actionable opportunities to divert them from firearm violence. The central message conveyed is the collective investment of law enforcement and community partners in their success, safety, and overall well-being.

Since its inception on August 28, 2023, the program has conducted 29 Custom Notifications, underscoring its ongoing commitment to addressing gun violence in St. Mary’s County. As an innovative blend of law enforcement and community-led efforts, the GVI Program represents a pivotal component of the comprehensive strategy to reduce violence within our community.
