Hi All Ben Woodgate from APT. I lot of you have asked me can I fit my Land Rover Defender 110 sliders to my vehicle my self at home. The answer is yes. The Land Rover Defender Sliders by APT not only provide a step for you to get into your vehicle but they also provide rock solid protection for your lower doors and your under body floor pan. The APT sliders come with new premium quality fixings so all you need are a couple of basic hand tools and you are on your way. Here's what you get:
4mm 350 grade replacement sill
4mm 350 grade rock rail which attaches to the sill in four points
8mm laser cut mounting brackets which are welded to the replacement sill so there are no adjustment bolts that will come loose and they won't need to be adjusted after impact
The rear bracket has the unique lock bolt for those hard core situations.
All of this is provided with new 12mm grade 8.8 fixings.
The Land Rover Defender APT Rock Slider are a sill replacement slider so you need to remove the sill. To do this you need a 10mm socket and a 10mm spanner to underdo t5he eight nuts and bolts on the back of the sill. I have already removed mine. Once the sill section is out of the way, remove the nut from the bulk head outrigger mounting bolt. To do this you will need a 19mm spanner and socket. If you are working by yourself, use some stands of some sort to make life a bit easier for yourself. We are going to start by mounting the front bracket over the outrigger mounting bolt. Once the slider is in position over the outrigger mounting bolt
we loosely start the nut - keep it nice and wiggly. At the rear, line the laser cut mounting bracket with the existing holes int he outrigger; once aligned start the two 12mm bolts as some adjustment is required toward the end, make sure you keep the bolts until they just touch the surface of the mounting bracket. To do this your will need a 18mm spanner and a 19mm socket - make sure you do not tighten them off fully - just touching only. To begin the fit off we will start at the front of the Land Rover Defender. What we are going to do is push the slider in as hard as we can against the bulkhead and then tighten up that outrigger bolt with our two 19mm socket and spanner. This is structural bolt so do it up as tight as you can. No we move to the rear. Now before we fit off the last two rear bolts, we need to align the sliders to the body line of the Defender. Now as the front of the slider is fixed this will be our measuring point to make sure that everything lines up - you can do this by eye or using a tape measure - adjust the rear to suit before we start tightening off those two rear bolts. Because the two mounting holes are slotted in the rear mounting bracket, I have been able to adjust my distances from here and here (front and rear distances from outer truck to outrigger edge) to match each other so I can now begin to tighten these two bolts. Now with the use of an 18mm spanner and a 19mm socket we will tighten these two bolts off as tight as we can. And for those who want to run a bit more extreme, this is where our unique locking bolts comes in. For this you run a 10mm drill bit through that hole, and run a 10mm bolt through that to lock it off into position. Well folks there you go, rock solid protection for your outer extremities and a straight forward install to do in your driveway at home.
