Israel has hit several Syrian air defences and weapons depots in what it says is an attempt to deprive "extremists" of military assets. The strikes came despite Syrian rebel leader, Abu Mohammed al-Jolani saying his group was not interested in a conflict with Israel.

Hundreds of people are feared dead after Cyclone Chido hit the French island territory of Mayotte with a senior French official saying the number may be far higher.

Renowned tabla player Zakir Hussain has died aged 73 from lung disease. He has been remembered for his talent with the classical Indian instrument.
