Manned Helpers on Soldier Summit

Union Pacific and Utah Railway trains use manned helper engines mid-train to tackle the 2.4% climb up the east side of Soldier Summit. Beginning at Helper, Utah, watch trains tackle the stiff mountain grade through the Price River Canyon to Colton, east of the summit.
The thunder of high-horsepower diesel locomotives is what this program is all about. Union Pacific GE AC4400's, 60/44AC's, and GEVO's, along with Utah Railway MK50-3's, SD50's, and even a GP40 take part in this show of raw horsepower verses gravity!
