The Thaksinarath is the highest-priority train service operated by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) on the Southern Line, running between Bangkok Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal and Hat Yai Junction, providing a long-distance rail link in Southern Thailand. This flagship train is known for its comfortable and modern accommodation, making it popular among both locals and tourists despite the higher fare.

The Air-conditioned First Class Day & Night Coach (ANFCN) is the highest class of travel on the Thaksinarath, and is a very popular choice for overnight travel due to its privacy. The train cars feature 12 compartments with 1 upper and 1 lower berth each. The lower berths are slightly more expensive due to the bigger space and ease of access. During the day, the berths can be converted into a side-by-side bench of 2 seats with a proper seat back, providing a comfortable space to sit. Basic amenities such as bedding, pillows, and blankets are provided. There are shared toilets and a shower at the ends of each carriage. For solo travellers who prefer more privacy, the whole compartment can be booked with a single-occupancy supplement. For this trip, however, I did not get a private compartment, and only booked the upper berth.
