Thornton Township Special Meeting - 8/15/24

Описание к видео Thornton Township Special Meeting - 8/15/24

This was a long meeting, with a lot of motions, seconds, discussions, and votes. The full story appears on our website: https://thelansingjournal.com/2024/08...

Rather than simply stream the meeting live, The Lansing Journal has taken the time to identify the various actions and participants. In doing so, we noticed that one of the items was never actually voted on.

At about the 54:00 mark, Trustee Carmen Carlisle makes a motion to approve an ordinance to "regulate retail/credit card/net 30 policy." Trustee Chris Gonzalez seconds the motion. A long discussion follows that includes staff members and department heads. Then Supervisor Tiffany Henyard makes a motion to table the motion, which Trustee Jerry Jones seconds. The Board votes on that motion to table the motion. The result is a tie, so the motion to table fails. But neither the Clerk nor the Attorney followed up on the original motion to approve the ordinance. So the status of that motion is unclear.

That kind of detail doesn't come through when livestreaming proceedings like this. Lansing Journal reporter Melanie Jongsma didn't notice it at the time either. Only in poring over the footage to add the notations did she realize what had happened.

We appreciate the YouTubers and broadcast media who are able to share the news quickly and widely. And we hope our viewers also appreciate the many hours we spend trying to put our footage in a format that will be a useful documenting of confusing events.
