Friday May 3rd is World Press Freedom Day. The day serves as an occasion to inform citizens of violations of press freedom. It is a date to encourage and develop initiatives in favor of press freedom, and to assess the state of press freedom worldwide. In Uganda media regulator ordered the suspension of journalists at 13 local TV and radio stations accused of airing sensationalized programming -- just days after the widely covered arrest of a pop star who plans to challenge President Yoweri Museveni.
