If I had to recommend anyone a single inexpensive starter shortwave radio it would be this model or the 310ET. It has decent audio quality from it's main speaker, solid headphone experience, direct entry keypad and buttons that have a premium feel to them.

A joy to use for shortwave, AM and FM. The DSP chip in this radio is well implemented. The extra bandwidth choice make it fun to tune in faint MW and Shortwave stations, Love it.
