Musically Yours, GV

Episode 3- LyricScope ( Surrender )

Surrender -Dridha Bhakti or steadfast devotion to the Divine Will is at the very core of Sanatana Dharma.

This unwavering Bhakti is the vehicle that guides the individual toward spiritual growth, self-realization and harmony with the universe.

Of the twelve Azhwars, the revered saints of Vaishnavism whose devotional hymns are collectively known as Divya Prabhandham, Kulasekhara Azhwar and Andaal Kodhai have composed some of the most inspired hymns that express intense devotion and reverence to Lord Vishnu.

In one of the verses in his masterful Mukunda Mala Stotra, written in Quintessential Sanskrit , Kulasekhara Azhwar prays for the most cherished boon: birth after birth so that he could render unflinching service to the Lotus feet of the Lord. He emphasizes the divine attributes of the Lord such as compassion, omnipresence, and omniscience, and expresses his intense longing, love, and surrender to God.

Kodhai Nachiyar or Andaal in her epochal Tiruppavai containing thirty hymns in Chaste Tamizh, one for each day of the Tamizh month of Margazhi extols the virtues of the omnipotent Lord. The rhythmic and lyrical compositions transport the devotees to the realms of divine bliss.
She exhorts her companions and friends to undertake vows and austerities while constantly singing His glories and Divine pastimes, meditating with a steady mind on His Divine form, surrendering themselves completely unto Him.

Here we take a verse from the Mukundamala ( Raga chosen- Atana and Hamirkalyani and that leads us to a Tirupaavai (Malayamarutam). Both are personal favorites and a remarkable example of Surrender and Bhakti.
