Описание к видео Making of illuminated manuscript page~Tutorial Part 1: how to design an illuminated botanical border

🍂Welcome, fellow wayfarer!

Today we are going to start making an illuminated manuscript page. First, we will construct a border with the help of ruler, compass and pencil, and make a rough sketch of composition elements to decide on their position. Then, we will proceed to refining it and turning the sketch into illuminated manuscript design with decorative flowers, leaves, precious stones and pearls, knotwork patterns. Last, we will use tracing paper to transfer the design onto watercolor paper and prepare the paper for coloring. In Part 2 of this tutorial (upcoming video), we will be painting this border.

📜What can such illuminated border be used for? You can choose a calligraphy font/ script and write any text you want inside: a drop letter, someone's initials, a prayer, an excerpt of a religious text, favorite quote, warm wishes etc. Use it as a decoration or a gift for your loved ones.

In this video, you will learn how to use compass and ruler to draw an illuminated border, how to draw tezhip / tazhib inspired flowers, how to draw decorative leaves, how to draw Celtic knots or Celtic knotwork, how to prepare and stretch watercolor paper for further painting, how to use tracing paper, how to transfer design onto paper.

📜List of materials used for the first part of this art project (not sponsored):
~ Watercolor paper 23 cm x 31 cm, ca. A4 size (Hot-pressed 300 gsm Canson Heritage cotton paper is used)
~ Small eraser (e.g., Tombow Mono Zero eraser pen)
~ Compass
~ Ruler
~ Tracing paper
~ HB and/or B+ (B2, B4 etc.) graphite pencil
