In this video tutorial, we will be painting the transferred border design and decorating illuminated page by hand. You will learn how to paint a realistic golden frame using pigment ink, how to paint tezhip or tazhib style flowers, how to paint pearls, how to create a gold leaf effect, how to make a flower ornament or how to paint a botanical ornament, how to combine watercolor with color pencils, how to use ink for drawing outlines, how to use ink pens for hatching technique, how to draw Celtic knot pattern, how to achieve old grainy textured paper effect, how to make a Medieval illuminated manuscript.
📜What can such illuminated border be used for? You can choose a calligraphy font/ script and write any text you want inside: a drop letter, someone's initials, a prayer, an excerpt of a religious text, favorite quote, warm wishes etc. Use it as a decoration or a gift for your loved ones.
📜List of materials used for the first part of this art project (not sponsored):
~ Watercolor paper 23 cm x 31 cm, ca. A4 size (Hot-pressed 300 gsm Canson Heritage cotton paper is used)
~ Small eraser (e.g., Tombow Mono Zero eraser pen)
~ Ruler
~ HB and/or B+ (B2, B4 etc.) graphite pencil
~ Tape (masking tape/ washi tape/ paper tape- an easily removable tape which wouldn't damage paper surface much)
~ Brushes: Round 2 Aquafine Daler Rowney, 4 Roubloff 1410 squirrel brush,
6 Flat shader brush Aquafine Daler Rowney, Sable round 0 Aquafine Daler Rowney, Cotman round Winsor & Newton 00, W&N Cotman 111 round
📜Painting materials:
🍁 Watercolors (Winsor & Newton Professional): Raw Umber, Ultramarine Violet, Terre Verte, Light Red, Yellow Ochre, Vandyke Brown, Brown Ochre, Olive Green Yellowish;
🍁 Metallic pigments: Artline Decorite Gold water based pigment ink pen 1.0 by Shachihata, Blue Gold No 901 from Gansai Tambi Starry Colors by Kuretake;
🍁 Colored pencils (Faber Castell Polychromos): Burnt Umber 280, Venetian Red 190, Chrome Oxide Green 278, Olive Green Yellowish 173, Bister 179, Brown Ochre 182, Terracotta 186;
🍁 Ink pens: Copic wine multiliner 0.3, Copic Olive multiliner 0.3, Copic sepia or brown multiliner 0.3;
🍁 White gel pen (e.g. Gelly Roll 08 Sakura) and Artline Decorite 1.0 white pigment ink pen.
