Surviving the Longest Leg of the Dales Way: Day 2 - Kettlewell to Cowgill

The Dales Way - 81 Miles from Ilkley to Bowness-on-windermere.

Join me on Day 2 of my epic Dales Way hike as we tackle the longest stretch of the journey so far. This 39.5-kilometer trek from Ketterwill to Cowgill was a real test of endurance, with some tough and hard-going terrain that really took a toll on our feet. But the stunning scenery and fascinating points of interest along the way made every step worth it.

During the walk we walked past the Yockenthwaite Stone Circle, an ancient site of great cultural and historical significance. Then we walked along the Wharfe, dipping our feet in the icy cold water to refresh ourselves for the journey ahead. Wow it was cold! As we continued, we met with the Pennine Way and enjoyed breathtaking views of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, including the towering Whernside.

Our biggest ascent of the four-day challenge was a real challenge, but we soldiered on and were rewarded with an incredible pheasant and apple stew at the end of the day. We pushed ourselves to our limits and beyond, walking until we simply couldn't walk anymore. But with the trail always delivering, we found our perfect camping spot just before sunset, ready to take on whatever Day 3 would bring.
