When is hospitalization needed for Diverticulitis? You can be hospitalized with a milder form of Diverticulitis, but Diverticulitis can become very severe. Lets talk about the symptoms that would keep you hospitalized and what medications you will be given. Many patients want to know when they will be able to eat again?

A lot of the times, complications with severe Diverticulitis can occur. Perforations, obstructions, abscesses, and fistulas are all complications of Diverticulitis that we will discuss. I will define what these complications are, how they are managed, what happens if the patients isn't getting better, and how surgery can help.

Many medical specialties are involved in the care of a patient with Diverticulitis. Of course, the GI doctor will be there the whole way. But when complications occur, an interventional radiologist and various surgical specialties will be consulted to either observe the patient or perform procedures. I will discuss when that happens as well.
