Recipe Name :- Choddo Shaak

‘Choddo’ meaning fourteen and ‘Shak’ meaning leafy vegetables in Bengali, this dish is prepared during Diwali & Kali puja

It consists of 14 different leafy greens and is consumed with the belief that the dish helps boost immunity and protection from evil

Ingredients

500 Gm Chopped Choddo Shak

1 Brinjal

2 Tbsp Mustard Oil

1 Tsp Panch Phoron

2 Dried Red Chilies

1 Tsp Turmeric powder

Salt to taste

1-2 Slit Green chillies

7-8 Bori

Recipe steps

Cut the brinjal into dices

Marinate brinjal with ½ tsp turmeric powder and salt

Heat 1 tsp mustard oil, lightly saute the brinjal and keep aside

Heat 1 tsp mustard oil, add bori and fry until they turn golden brown in colour, keep aside

Heat 1 tbsp mustard oil in a pan, add panch phoron and dry red chillies

Add greens, pinch of turmeric powder and saute

Cover and cook until it shrinks and gets cooked partially

Add brinjal and salt and saute

Add green chillies and saute

Once the water evaporates, add bori and mix well. Serve hot with steam rice
