Jane Hartsock, J.D. is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Medical Humanities and Health Studies at Indiana University – Purdue University, Indianapolis. She graduated from Butler University in 1999 with a B.A. in English Literature and a concentration in writing. She completed her JD in 2002 at the Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis before moving to Chicago where she spent more than 10 years defending hospitals and clinicians in medical legal litigation. Most recently, Jane has completed a fellowship in clinical medical ethics with the Fairbanks Center for Medical Ethics and will complete her MA in Philosophy with a concentration in bioethics on May 14th.


The Charles Warren Fairbanks Center for Medical Ethics sponsors the Fairbanks Ethics Lecture Series as an educational outreach to physicians and staff of Indiana University Health hospitals and interested others in the central Indiana community. Lectures are free, open to all, and do not require pre-registration. Continuing education credit is offered to physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains at no charge, regardless of their institutional affiliation.
