Mastodon - Island Bass Cover

I loved the opening riff to the fourth track off of “Leviathan” from the moment I heard it. You can also hear it in that scene from “Monsters University” where “Squibbles” mother drops them off at the factory and she waits for them while she listens to her tunes. Yes, Mastodon was in a Pixar film. This song is unrelenting in its brutality! After that intro it doesn’t let you breathe until the very end where there’s some room to take in that guitar solo with the outro riffs to bring you down from all that chaos you experienced. The bass part was really fun on this tune. It’s not always playing the same rhythm as the guitar rather, it’s letting it breathe by playing some whole notes and half notes. That little sliding pattern was actually really fun to get down and well worth the effort. I’ve never heard Mastodon play this one live so I’m really looking forward to hearing it.
