Discover Australian Riesling with Emma Symington MW

Описание к видео Discover Australian Riesling with Emma Symington MW

Our ‘Discover’ series is a collection of wine webinars hosted by WSET School London educators and other experts, covering different regions or styles of wine.

Riesling has a long history in Australia, dating back to the 1830s. Until the Chardonnay boom struck in the 1980s, it was Australia’s most widely planted variety. Today it only accounts for 2.3% of total plantings but is grown in 40 regions across Australia, from the iconic Clare and Eden Valleys to newer regions such as Great Southern and Tasmania.

After Germany, Australia is one of the largest producers of Riesling globally and it is classically known for its bone dry, high acid styles that can age and evolve for decades. However, winemakers are increasingly experimenting with winemaking techniques, resulting in a diverse selection of styles today.

In this webinar recording, Emma Symington MW leads you through some of Australia’s key Riesling regions, discussing their individual climates and topographies and the differing styles of Riesling they make.
