Nee Soon was populated with several kampongs before turning into Yishun New Town. Ba Soon Pah and Chye Kay Village folks bond as strongly as in older days despite resettlements. Many hold high respect for the principal of Lee Cheng School, who nurtured a dozen national table tennis players and taught villagers the skills of breeding tropical fish. They joined hands to publish a book and build a Historical Garden to highlight their roots in Yishun.

义顺在发展为新镇住宅区之前，有华顺芭与财启村两座主要甘榜。财启村励正小学校长陈传恭曾培养出十多名乒乓球国手，还指导村民养殖热带鱼，提升收入。甘榜拆迁四十年后，老村民携手出版财启村书籍，并在义顺多处设立历史花园与壁画。地貌虽变，义顺乡情依旧。
