Ok, now let's talk about defending a series, and I don't have long here so I really want you to think about two things. We want our defensive players, and I'm big on this, to understand how offensive teams set up plays, ok and if you watch college football now these guys that know what they're doing, their really taking so much of their roots from old wishbone wing tee football which is, and just think of it in these terms, dive, keep, and pitch in the option game look all the same, ok. Now we may block it a little different but it all looks the same and what their doing is they're looking to see who's not reading it, well pistol offense, same thing when their reading the back side end. A gun, which we're all seeing when we're reading the end, and what their looking for is how are you playing it, and of course their going to change their blocking scheme suddenly and take advantage of that so we've got to understand what plays are set up, and the reason, look how I drew this, ok. So you've got the fullback hitting the midline, you've got the slot back, or the wing back here going deep motion which now, what do we do, we roll the cover 2 to this side, the strong safety steps back and reads the win because where's the ball going? 85% of the plays are here. Now, we're talking about why don't we cheat the will in, the will is going to play the fullback trout. One unlike the 2-I because the trap's got to go where? He's got to go wide, ok. So the will is reading the fullback. The mike now, when this guy starts in motion, or he lines up here, if this wingback went in motion, we will cross read, which I'm just now telling you. So if he's here, or he motions, as he motions I want the mike seeing him, I want the mike seeing him so that mike should stay up, should stay up, ok. Now, if its a true wingTT they should pull and line will happen based on what this center does. Mikes pretty good, he can see this. If the center blocks place side buck sweep, if he blocks backside it trout. They could still pull the guard and influence you, alright, but the will should kill it. Ok that's the will's job, to kill it. The will wants to see this path, ok, because you see this path, that's a trap path, that's a bucksweep path. What if the fullback went wide? So once the 3 plays off this motion buck sweep, excuse me not just this motion but this motion when the pullback hit it, buck sweep, trap and waggle. So if the fullback went wide we want the will to try and see that and take it to the flat. I already told you the jack is coming across the line of scrimmage, he has got contain. We are always going to check the quarterback guys, and the reason we do, we want to shut the rival down weak. Ok, so here comes jack across the line of scrimmage, our 3 technique is 2 ways. We want him flat on the line, we don't want to attack and get up field and get cut down and cut off. Ok, so if he's got pulling guard, he's going to try to get across the face of the center once he sees the ball has stayed front side, ok so it could be buck sweep, it could be trap, and close this hole, once he's seen contact he's going to close it, not cross the face til he knows where the ball is. So the 2-i and the 3 are going to close it if its a trap, if its down the line it gets down the line, alright. And if it gets double on the buck sweep is gonna take it on , the sam is going to take on the will, the corner is going to close hard and our safety is going to fill it. Strong safety's across in the backside. Alright, if its trap, will should be our trap player and mike will close it down, alright. Waggle, alright, waggle, jack is going to be our contain, the strong safety, if the will plays the fullback to the flat, ok, if the will plays the fullback in the flat, the strong safety is going to pick up the tight end. Ok, on the backside of waggle, sam has got the flat, the safety is going to play the middle of the field, ok, he's going to play the middle of the field and the corner is going to leverage to the backside for the throw back, so waggle, flat, deep, deep path to the middle so the post, where man covers. If the fullback's in the flat the will takes him, if he can and the safety will help on the drag. If the will doesn't see it, the safety takes it and the will helps on the drag.
