EarthQuaker Sessions Ep. 41 - Sudan Archives "Wake Up/Nont For Sale/An Improv" | EarthQuaker Devices

For this EQD Session, Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, producer, violinist Sudan Archives fills up an empty room with her instrument, her pedalboard, her considerable presence, and her super chill pooch.
Archives is a master of the Boss RC300 looper, and for her three-song set, she builds melodic lines and rhythmic touches into beds of harmony and groove. Throughout, she is ably assisted by EQD's Dispatch Master, Afterneath, Space Spiral, Aqueduct, and Spatial Delivery. "Wake Up" from her self-titled debut EP builds from a looped plucked bass line over which she adds several layers of an Afterneath-frosted legato melody, then adds some Space Spiral modulated delay for a steady thumb-picked groove for motion. On "Nont For Sale" from the EP "Sink," Archives lays down delicate staccato lines with a beat derived from using her violin percussively, then adds her wordless vocals with slight reverb from the Dispatch Master. Finally, she improvises a solo laced with spikey Spatial Delivery goodness, briefly getting her dozing doggie's attention. The Afterneath and Aqueduct show up on the bouncy "An Improv" as she layers syncopated lines building tension for another Spatial Delivery enhanced improvisation.
