(Composer bio from Two Centuries of Tasmanian Jigs 1813-2024)
Angus migrated from Scotland to Northern Tasmania in the late 1950s and soon became a fiddler in great demand for dances from Westbury, Longford and the North East Coast. He often played with traditional Tasmanian musicians such as John sturzaker, Leo Donohue, and Eileen McCoy. Later he performed with folk revival musicians such as Mike Watts, Beth Sowter and Leueen Barber among others. Angus wrote many original folk-dance tunes for the various sets danced at traditional and revivalist events. His music represents a true link between Scottish village music and Tasmanian country dance music.
