Matriarch | How to Play the Filter

Описание к видео Matriarch | How to Play the Filter

This video explores different techniques for using Matriarch’s stereo filter as a dual sine oscillator.

The beauty of semi-modular synthesizers is the ease of sound creation offered by hardwired circuits, coupled with the flexibility to be creative in how you use the instrument. While Matriarch has four audio oscillators (five if you include the modulation oscillator), the stereo filter section can also be used as two additional audio oscillators. These oscillators are unique in that they only offer a single waveform, but one that isn’t found in Matriarch’s oscillator section: a sine wave!

Sine waves are a flexible sound design tool more commonly used in the “West Coast” additive synthesis techniques pioneered by Don Buchla and Serge Tcherepnin. Despite Matriarch’s obvious “East Coast” subtractive synthesis lineage and approach, its semi-modularity allows the filter to be utilized for interesting “West Coast” analog FM synthesis techniques, giving access to new sonic territory to explore.
