Litter-Robot 4: LitterHopper™ Installation Guide

In this video, we will show you how to easily get started on the installation and full use of the Litter-Robot 4 LitterHopper.

The Litter-Robot 4 LitterHopper is designed to automatically maintain the optimal Litter-Robot 4 litter level by intermittently refilling the globe with litter. If the sensors determine the litter levels are below optimal, LitterHopper will dispense litter into the globe during the next clean cycle. Litter will be added only when needed and only during the next clean cycle.

💡Key things to know for LitterHopper:
Litter will only be added when needed and only during a clean cycle
Whisker will automatically update the firmware in your Litter-Robot 4 to ensure the best operation possible
Any time you affect the weight or placement of your Litter-Robot 4 (emptying waste drawer, adding/removing litter, cleaning or moving unit) press the Reset button to ensure Litter-Robot is calibrated and operating accurately

Firmware update:
In the Whisker app, select your Litter-Robot 4 from the dashboard
Select the settings icon
Select the firmware information menu
If no update is available then your firmware is current, otherwise select “Update”

✴️Preparing your Litter-Robot 4:
Ensure Litter-Robot 4 is in the home position
Press the power button to turn off Litter-Robot 4
Unplug Litter-Robot from the wall
Remove any accessories from the bezel
Remove the waste drawer
Remove the bonnet by pressing the latches on both sides and rotating it backwards
Remove the globe by grabbing the black handle on top of the globe and lifting it out of the base
Tip the unit forward and place it on the floor with the bezel resting on a soft surface or towel
Unplug the power jack from Litter-Robot


⚙️Installing LitterHopper anti-tip guard:
While Litter-Robot 4 is still facedown, insert the anti-tip guard into the small holes near the power jack pocket of the base (the wiring in place will not interfere with installation)
Grab the bonnet hinge on the base
With the other hand, press the anti-tip guard into the small holes until each side snaps securely into place
There should not be a gap between the anti-tip guard and the base if installed properly
Route the power cord over the anti-tip guard Not Under and plug the power jack back into Litter-Robot
Tip Litter-Robot back onto its feet - make sure the power cord is not trapped under the anti-tip guard
Make sure the anti-tip guard is not touching the floor

Installing the LitterHopper key:
Locate the cap on the back of the globe
Remove the cap by grabbing onto the tab and pulling it out of the globe
Place the new hopper key into the rear of the globe with the rectangular opening facing up, the key should fit loosely in the globe
While holding the key into place, lift the globe and place it back into the base (the key must drop down into the pocket completely)
Place the new LitterHopper bonnet into the hinge of the base
Rotate the bonnet downward over the globe and push down on the bonnet to ensure it’s latched and secure
The key must protrude through the opening of the base

⚙️Attaching the LitterHopper
Litter-Robot 4 has two circular pockets on each side of the hinge at the back of the base and a slot at the back of the bonnet for the LitterHopper hook tab
Align the posts of the LitterHopper with the circular pockets and lower it into place
Verify the hopper has been installed properly - the hook tab should engage with the slot in the bonnet, and there should be no gap between the hopper and the bonnet or between the hopper and the base

⚙️Final assembly
Reinstall the waste drawer
Reinstall any accessories
Check the litter level - it should be filled to just under max fill line
Remove the lid from LitterHopper by squeezing the buttons on the lid together and lifting
Fill the LitterHopper with fresh litter, up to the fill line, then replace the lid
Plug in Litter-Robot and turn it on

🖲️Activating the LitterHopper
Press and hold both the Connect and Cycle buttons for 3 seconds
The control panel will flash white and the Hopper will dispense a small amount of litter, indicating the LitterHopper is enabled
You can enable and disable the LitterHopper in the Whisker app
