Bill Keith first heard this tune off a fiddle player from Nova Scotia, thanks to Bill it became a standard in the banjo rep. It had been a well known recording in the 1930's under a different title. I've heard it played at typical bluegrass breakneck tempo (" we play faster than most folk think !"..Bill Monroe) as a flat-pick piece, but here it's a fingerstyle come banjo style with the tempo set to bring some weight back into the phrasing.
