The Sword of Night, a new Katana type weapon added with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC expansion in Elden Ring. It's description reads ''Sword of an all-consuming, bottomless black that devours even the light that shines upon it. Wielded by Jolán, Swordhand of Night. The blade of the sword is only semicorporeal, and thus cannot be guarded against completely.''
It's scaling is only Dexterity, starting at C tier and increasing to B Tier.

The requirements for the Sword of Night are 11 points into Strength and 20 points into Dexterity. Its attack is 110 Physical and 33 Magic, primarily dealing physical slash and partially magic damage. It's unique Ash of War is called Witching Hour Slash, and it's description reads ''Hold the sword level and infuse it with the dark of Night before unleashing a series of incorporeal attacks. This attack cannot be blocked. Can be charged to increase its power.''

The Witching Hour Slash Ash of War is a slash attack infused with the dark of night on the blade, in other words its attacks cannot be guarded against, due to the nature of the sword being considered ''semi-corporeal.'' The Ash of War costs 21 FP, it deals 14 damage to poise, and 27 when fully charged, the skill can be charged so Godfrey's Icon will work with it. The Ash of War is not considered a stance so Rellana's Cameo will not work with it.

The Sword of Night is a somber smithing stone weapon, meaning it can't be infused with any other skills, and only be upgraded up to level + 10. The weapon's charged R2 attack is the same satisfying quick slashes that the Serpentbone Blade Katana have. With the arrival of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree's patch notes 1.12, the 13 Intelligence requirement was removed from this weapon. When fully upgraded the weapons base physical damage is 269, and 80 magic damage, with (45) bleed build up per hit.

The Sword of Night Katana belongs to Swordhand of Night Jolan, who is an NPC in Elden Ring, dressed in all black armor, and a servant to Count Ymir, who can be found at the Cathedral of Manys Metyr in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. She only appears after you complete the first objective in Count Ymir's questline.

To acquire the Sword of Night Katana in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC expansions, one must complete Swordhand of Night Jolan's questline, which also requires Count Ymir's questline. The steps to doing this are as follows:

1: Speak to Count Ymir at the Cathedral of Manus Metyr.
2. Speak to Swordhand of Night Jolan.
3. Ring the finger horn at the Finger Ruins of Rhia.
4. Go back to count Ymir and then speak to Swordhand of Night Jolan.
5. Defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers boss at the Finger Ruins of Miyr.
6. Return to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr and beat Swordhand of Night Jolan.
7. Rest at the nearest Site of Grace and Speak to Swordhand of Night Jolan
8. Use the Iris of Occulation on Swordhand of Night Jolan.

Swordhand of Night Jolan can be found with Count Ymir in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr, located in Scadu Altus. It sits in the middle of a body of water in the central part of Scadu Altus. It’s southeast of Shadow Keep, and northeast of Castle Ensis. To get there, you’ll need to travel through a hole in the ground in Moorth Ruins, which will take you up to Bonny Village. From here, you can cross a bridge over to the Whipping Hut and another that will take you to the Bridge Leading to the Village Site of Grace.

Go north along the path, following it until it winds back down to the south and to the Cathedral. When you step inside, you’ll see a large, imposing throne and someone sitting in it. Approach it and you’ll be greeted by Count Ymir. As soon as you’ve had the first conversation with Ymir, Jolan will appear.

The Iris of Occultation is a consumable item in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC expansion, it can be consumed to pretty much do the same thing a rune arc does, and thats activate a great rune, however we want to use it to unlock the Sword of Night Katana. The Iris of Occultation can be found at Fort Reprimand, and another can be found at the Church District: Scadutree Base. It's description reads: "An iris that is as dark as night. Place on the eye of another to deny them light in all its forms. Can also be used to receive the blessing of an equipped Great Rune, at the cost of all runes currently held. In the realm of Shadow, this artifice was employed by the priests of the Erdtree to intensify the fears of their flock to magnificent effect." It can be used on both Queelign and Swordhand of Night Jolan to receive spirit ashes or a weapon of..
