In his address, Professor Luciano Floridi will examine the revolution in information that has taken place since the middle of the 20th Century and its implications for a world that is becoming more digital and more data-orientated. The democratization and socialization of information that has come from technological development and innovation has increased the transparency of every aspect of life, from health to personal finance. This will impact significantly on how individuals relate to each other and to society, as the boundaries between online and offline lives blur. Professor Floridi will present his ethical framworke to deal with these challenges.


About the Speaker:

Professor Luciano Floridi is Professor of Philosophy and Ethics of Information at the Oxford Internet Institute (OII) at Oxford University. He was appointed President of the International Society for the Study of Information in 2013. Before joining OII, he was UNESCO Chair in Information and Computer Ethics. He was Chairman of the European Commission’s expert group on “The impact of Information and Communication Technologies, (ICTs), on European society”. He is author of over several books, including: The Fourth Revolution – How the Infosphere is Reshaping Human Reality, The Philosophy of Information, and The Ethics of Information. Professor Floridi has delivered keynote addresses at the Digital Agenda Annual Assembly, the European Parliament, and also for the TED lecture series.
