Hiking Charon's Garden Wilderness via Charon's Garden, Crab Eyes, and Treasure Lake Trails

Описание к видео Hiking Charon's Garden Wilderness via Charon's Garden, Crab Eyes, and Treasure Lake Trails

Charon's Garden Wilderness, located in the Wichita Mountains of southwestern Oklahoma, is one of my very favorite spots in the state. The whole area has a desert vibe that isn't found in the eastern half of the state and the Wichita Mountains, one of Oklahoma's three ranges, have a unique beauty all their own.

The route I took for this hike - using Charon's Garden Trail, Crab Eyes Trail, and Treasure Lake Trail - formed a quasi-figure eight shape (as shown on my route map at the end of the video). The hike presented me with surprising challenges and rewarding views. Be ready with a map and the AllTrails app so as not to get lost as a certain amount of route-finding is necessary on the Charon's Garden Trail. I walked through waist deep water in Post Oak Creek and dense thickets of thorns north of Post Oak Falls. North of there the trail meanders over and under massive boulder fields. The Crab Eyes and Treasure Lake Trails are more well traveled and easier to follow.

A number of snakes, including venomous rattlesnakes, call the Wichitas home. Colorful birds and lizards, wildflowers and cacti are all around. At the time of my visit in June, 2021 wildflowers were in full bloom.

Have you visited the Wichitas? What were your favorite adventures? Let me know in the comments. I'm always looking for new places to explore.
