The ladies who gave me a private tour of their cherished historic home give us a new perspective on old architecture.

An old house is more than just a collection of rooms and amazing craftsmanship (yeah, that's one of the things I love about architecture!) - it is a piece of history because it is a collection of STORIES. Notice how many stories she tells! And notice how sensitive they are to the question marks - they are very aware of the stories they DON'T KNOW.

They are keepers of the stories of the house and the people who built it, and also keepers of the stories of the clubs that are the current caretakers. Not to mention keepers of that intriguing room full of old clothing at the back of the servants' quarters! Can I come over and catalogue everything...?
