Live bassoon masterclass with Simon Van Holen

Live bassoon masterclass of the Riga Jurmala Online Music Academy with Simon Van Holen, the solo-contrabassoon player of the Concertgebouworkest.

Simon Van Holen received his first bassoon lessons at the age of eight. From 2003 on he studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, later at the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf with Gustavo Núñez, where he graduated in 2010. Van Holen was invited for the Zermatt Festival Academy and the Gustav Mahler Akademie. In 2011 Simon Van Holen was appointed solo contrabassoonist at the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker and since 2012 he holds the same position at the Concertgebouworkest.

🎼 J.N. Hummel - Grand Concerto for bassoon and orchestra in F major

Katrīne Kuģe is currently studying for a master's degree at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music with lecturer Jānis Semjonovs and at the same time works at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet Symphony Orchestra.

She has also been actively taking part in other Latvian orchestras - Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, wind orchestra “Riga”, and State Chamber Orchestra "Sinfonietta Rīga".

Katrīne has received her bachelor's degree from professor Ole Kristian Dahl at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts (Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim). She also has had the opportunity to participate in masterclasses with such world-renowned musicians as Fredrik Ekdahl, Carlo Colombo, Matthias Racz, Giorgio Mandolesi, Sebastian Stevensson, Eckart Hübner and many others.

Each masterclass Katrīne sees as a great opportunity to improve her knowledge and broaden her horizons in modern bassoon methodology and performance trends.
