When this soundtrack played for the first time in the AOT No Regrets OVA, it made me feel very nostalgic. It had such a soothing sound and atmosphere, and the melody had me picture good times you just think back on. I listened to it quite often ever since (which is about 2 months back by now) and the lyrics started to draw an even clearer and more vivid imagery in my mind.

I saw myself--in a seemingly innocent world of AOT--hanging out in a pub with my fellow comrades we had all given blood, sweat and tears together for who knows how long already. Among all the chatter, requiring us to speak louder and louder as the night went on, we would all be rejoiced about the time and drinks we got to share; the rest of the world becoming of no importance anymore. As the night goes on, cherishing every moment we hear each other's voices and laughters and see each other's faces, we are eventually asked to leave the pub. We suddenly realised that the pub became awfully quiet and, to our surprise, we were the only ones left inside with the morning sunlight illuminating the pub. We sat in silence a little longer before taking our leave one after another, ready to take on the world once again.



I mentioned in my last video, that this one would be a special one for me personally. As a matter of fact however, this was not the piano cover I wanted to upload originally. Rather, it would have been a piece I started working on back in September and had to drop for a few months, always lingering in the back of my mind. I finally managed to pick it up again during the Christmas break and finished it in January. I set out to make it a difficult arrangement and, fair enough, there were 2 or 3 measures that exceeded what I was able and willing to play once I finished arranging it. Given my imagery above, I decided to arrange and upload this instead.


From the time I started arranging for my previous video until I finished arranging for this video, I have grown to be very dissatisfied with my playing and arranging abilities due to my ever increasing standards. This lead to me not being able to feel the music anymore, which in turn lead to frustration because I wasn't enjoying it as much anymore and I was not able to tell if what I was doing was decent or not.

My first version of this cover was actually not too distant from what you hear now. After consulting feedback from a friend, I re-evaluated and changed only the first chorus and some of the transitions. And before I really noticed myself, I was actually very satisfied with the piece. The above imagery also gave me a great boost on trying to make this special while not burning myself out yet again. I was also able to find the joy in playing again. I guess the lesson to be learnt is that a perfectionist should take extra care in knowing his limits as it is very easy to fall into traps like these.

All of the above nonetheless culminated into making this a special video for me personally despite not being what I anticipated. With all that said, here is my 100 subscriber special! A month and a half, as well as 21 subscribers late but here we are :D
