Boeing 747 & Concorde Special! - The Greatest Heathrow + Gatwick Airport Video Ever....? Part 2

Описание к видео Boeing 747 & Concorde Special! - The Greatest Heathrow + Gatwick Airport Video Ever....? Part 2

It's Christmas everyday! The Boeing 747 and Concorde, the two aircraft that are synonymous with Heathrow Airport, they both defined Heathrow and set the airport above all the others. Heathrow had a unique atmosphere, it was THE place to go to view planes and became a real tourist attraction.
This video, filmed by my aviation friend Ian Austin captures the magic of Heathrow's glory days, when you could relax, put your feet up, drink, eat/sleep! and watch and enjoy the magnificent aircraft that the airport had to offer in the 1980'/90's.
The days when any airline that wanted to be taken seriously simply HAD to have the Jumbo jet in it's fleet! No if's or but's about it!!
The footage also shows the finest passenger plane ever built - Concorde - These were interesting days for the Concorde as British Airways did not really know what to do with the aircraft! A plan was utilized that the aircraft could be used as a charter aircraft and so a private company was hired to take on the Concorde charter work on behalf of BA. Goodwood Travel offered the regular British public the chance of a life time to fly on the supersonic aircraft on routes such as a trip around The Bay of Biscay! This was a good opportunity for the tax payers who funded the aircraft to actually fly on her.
It's hard to believe now but there were people who actually sneered at Concorde and said 'That's all it's good for - Charter flights!)
Ian's footage shows a good comparison between a Concorde charter and a regular New York bound Concorde, the early rotation is the big clue to it being a charter. The charter flights continued well into the late 1990's.
Another noteworthy mention MUST go to the superb flying skills of Varig pilots who had an amazing skill to depart their DC-10's/MD-11's and Boeing 747's with an incredible early rotation, this magic is captured by the footage shot by Ian and I am truly grateful he has preserved so many great memories of both Heathrow and Gatwick (when Gatwick had a viewing area too!)
