The Healing Awakening Hidden Here — Isaiah 53:5 | Joel S Goldsmith
Welcome to Joel Goldsmith Wisdom. For centuries, millions have turned to Isaiah 53:5 seeking comfort in their suffering, reading those ancient words with trembling hands and desperate hearts. But what if everything we were taught about this verse, everything we believed about healing and sacrifice and divine intervention, what if all of it was pointing us in exactly the wrong direction? What if by His stripes we are healed does not mean you are healed because He was wounded, but rather you are healed when you awaken to the truth that He was never truly wounded at all? What if the entire narrative of redemptive suffering, of vicarious atonement, of one person's pain purchasing another person's wholeness, what if this entire framework is simply a veil concealing a far more radical truth, a truth that threatens every religious institution built on the theology of separation? That truth is this. Healing was never absent. Wholeness was never lost. The wound you thought needed divine intervention to close never existed in the Consciousness that is your true nature. Isaiah 53:5 is not a promise about the future. It is a description of what has always been true. But to see this, you must be willing to let every cherished belief about how God works, how healing happens, how salvation operates, you must be willing to let all of it die. And in that death, in that complete surrender of religious certainty, something unprecedented can awaken. Are you ready to see what has been hidden in plain sight for thousands of years? Are you ready to discover that the healing you have been begging for is already here, has always been here, waiting not for divine intervention but for your recognition?
The theology of substitution is so deeply embedded in religious consciousness that most people cannot imagine any other interpretation of Isaiah 53:5. From childhood, we are taught a simple transaction. God is holy. Humans are sinful. Sin demands punishment. Someone must pay. Christ steps forward and takes the punishment in our place. His suffering satisfies divine justice. His stripes, His wounds, His blood, these become the currency that purchases our healing, our forgiveness, our salvation. It is a clean system, easy to understand, and it makes God into a cosmic accountant carefully balancing the books of moral debt. But this interpretation, which seems so obvious to billions of believers, rests on a foundation that Joel Goldsmith spent his entire life dismantling. The foundation of separation. The belief that God and humanity are fundamentally divided, that wholeness exists over there in the divine realm while brokenness exists over here in the human realm, and that some bridge must be constructed, some price must be paid, some substitution must occur to span that gap. Goldsmith saw with crystalline clarity that this entire system is built on a lie. Not a malicious lie, but a lie born of limited perception, a lie that becomes self-perpetuating because it seems to work, at least on the surface. When you believe you are separate from God, broken and in need of repair, and then you are told that someone has suffered to bridge that gap, you feel temporary relief.
