Distilled in 2004, Mahoko is a sweet potato shochu made by the Furusawa Distillery in Nichinan, Miyazaki. Made with white koji and local sweet potatoes, Mahoko is aged in ceramic pots before being long-rested an an enamel line tank. Masako Furusawa is the 3rd woman to run the distillery, following her mother (Motoko, who this brand is named after) and grandmother who have been doing most of the heavy lifting since 1945. Mahoko was the last distillate made by her father who passed away in 2006.
