The Beatles Charm Princess Margaret at Premiere of A Hard Day's Night (1964)

On 6 July 1964, the Beatles met Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon and her husband, Antony Armstrong-Jones, 1st Earl of Snowdon, at the UK premiere of the fab four's silver screen debut, A Hard Day's Night. The Princess met bandmates Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison ahead of the screening, as well as Wilfrid Brambell (of Steptoe and Son fame), who achieved international recognition playing McCartney's grandfather in the film. Occurring at the height of Beatlemania, the entrance to the Pavilion Theatre – and Piccadilly Circus beyond – was dominated by screaming fans, and St John's Ambulance were on hand to tend to the overwhelmed.

It is rumoured that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the only surviving members of the Beatles, are recording music with the Rolling Stones. While the Beatles and the Stones may have been rival contenders for the sound of the 60s, they were in fact good friends behind the scenes. McCartney and Starr were guests at Mick Jagger's wedding in 1970.
