I've actually received several requests to do a run without using an assist. To up the ante, I decided to forgo EXP to ___ abilities as well (which, to be honest, doesn't matter at all if I'm not abusing assists, EX, or Brv anyway). I felt like revisiting my very first character that I did this with, since there were many things about that fight that I wasn't very pleased with. So here you go: a relatively "pure" fight against Feral Chaos, with no fancy gimmicks or trickery. Just me dodging and countering his attacks.

To be honest, I wasn't really playing optimally on this one. I wanted to use a wider variety of attacks compared to last time, so you'll see me force myself to use Shield Bash a few times even though it normally isn't very good against Feral Chaos (especially since it doesn't wall rush). Also, towards the end I intentionally used a weaker follow-up in order to build EX, since I still wanted to finish with an EX burst. But then I screwed up the EX mode activation with my attack...yet thankfully I didn't suffer any consequences for that.

All three of Firion's follow-ups can be useful. The punch follow-up is by far his strongest finisher, doing more brv damage than any of the others even without factoring in the wall rush damage. The bow follow-up isn't very strong, but it does go into chase and produce a lot of EX force, which I used to quickly fill my EX gauge towards the end of the fight. The lance follow-up is even weaker than the bow follow-up, but it is mid priority and can be used even if your attack whiffs. It's great to cover for Firion after a missed attack, and can punish hasty opponents who try to attack you too early.
