Airdate: January 7, 1967

Here is the conversation Dick Clark had with “regulars” Dona and Peggy Waggoner just before introducing Neil Diamond. Neil performed “You Got To Me” and “Solitary Man”, both of which can be found in multiple locations on YouTube. I wonder if Dona ever went on to write any songs? 😊

Our Spotlight Dancers today are: Mike Moreno & Tyra Golter, Famous Hooks & June Strode, and Frank Reyeno & Joanna Androv. Also spotted in the ”who is visiting with us today” flashes across the audience are Peggy Waggoner (0:09), Maureen Cohen (0:12), Melody McMurray (0:15), Frank Vanderpuil (0:18), Judy Gordon (0:27) Robbin Morris (0:32) and John Pollard (0:34). Roni Menacker can also be seen sitting behind Dick on the bleachers on the far right.

DJ Vic Gee (Gruppi) left KBLA (AM 1500) to go to KGB in San Diego after KBLA switched to a country format in June 1967. He was forced to change his on-air name to Jim Carson at KGB as the station manager simply didn’t like the name Vic Gee. He kept the Jim Carson name for the rest of his career.

Marvin & Kim’s “It Takes Two” (one of my all-time favorites) is truly an “up-and-comer” as it just entered the Billboard charts today at #88. It will peak at #14 in March (how did this song only reach #14?!)

On March 18 (1967), Marvin Gaye will be the musical guest on American Bandstand and he will sing “Pride and Joy” and “It Takes Two”. As Kim Weston had already left Motown to go to MGM by then, Marvin will perform “It Takes Two” with a large rag doll.

Thanks for watching!
