Hidden Whitlingham - Norwich 4K

The hidden mysteries of Whitlingham, Norwich - the 24 hectares of woodland surrounding the broad have been sculptured into a series of valleys and pits by chalk and flint workings of years gone-by. The abandoned lime kiln at Whitlingham is considered to be one of the best preserved of its kind left in Norfolk. No longer in use the lime kiln is kept locked, providing a safe haven for hibernating bats. Perched on a wooded slope and slowly being reclaimed by nature, lay the ruined remains of the once grand St Andrew's Church. This church has a rich history and is part of local paranormal folklore. Easily missed amongst the trees are the remains of Trowse Newton Hall. This was a former country retreat for the Priors of Norwich Cathedral. In 1335 King Edward III reportedly stayed here. Look out for the various wood carvings dotted throughout the landscape including the elusive 'Green Man'.
