On Sunday the 9th of October 2022, the Glenbrook Vintage Railway and Steam Incorporated hosted an excursion together hauled by heritage steam locomotive Ja 1271 to from Hamilton to Tokoroa and back. This was one of many excursions on offer to the public as part of Ja 1271's big North Island steam tour.

Alongside the main excursion was a side trip for the Tokoroa locals, which ran from Tokoroa to Putaruru and return. Whilst this trip operated, the passengers on the main excursion toured around the Tokoroa township, which allowed business in the small town to boom.
