This is the best historical film on autism I have come across to date. Not as far as content, quality, or accuracy goes, but rather as a visual document summarizing the knowledge & beliefs of that early era. Those who have seen old films on the subject may recognize many of the terms and concepts invoked here.

Footage shows children stimming, rocking, making displays a repetitive chopping motion, displaying auto-aggressive behaviour.
