Faster is not always better

Efficiency has its place in our lives, otherwise, we won't be able to accomplish necessary tasks in a timely manner.

But slow living is the difference between saying yes to everything and carefully selecting what we commit ourselves to.

When we overschedule our days, we tend to multitask just to get everything done. While we're probably doing things faster this way, it's definitely not better.

Our attention is divided and our brains get overburdened. This leaves us feeling exhausted, prone to making mistakes, and burned out.

When we are intentional with living a slow life, we make decisions deliberately and not out of habit or because we feel obligated.

Slow living means giving the highest contribution of our time and energy to what's important and not spreading ourselves too thin on what's not.
Quality over quantity

The modern world celebrates a life of bigger and more. More money means more success, bigger houses mean more happiness.

But that's hardly the case. This undisciplined pursuit for quantity tends to compromise quality.

Bigger and more possessions lead to more expenses. More expenses lead to more hustling which then leads to more stress and a reduced quality of life.

Slow living prioritizes quality over quantity. It is moving away from hustle culture but without giving up on work entirely. To live slowly is to find and maintain balance in every aspect of your life.
Choosing where you put your attention to.

Our world is full of distractions that constantly beg for our attention and focus. Next thing we know, we're diverted from what we truly value and get lost in the noise around us.

What we consume with our eyes and ears impacts us on so many levels. It affects our mood, triggers us to spend impulsively, and may cause us to feel down about ourselves once we start comparing our worst with someone else's highlight reels.

So it's good to always ask ourselves - what am I feeding my body and mind?

Slow living is pausing and identifying who or what we give our attention to. Then making a deliberate decision to do what is essential for our peace and happiness.

Otherwise, if we continue to live a frantic, anxiety-driven life, someone else may be choosing it for us and are likely profiting from it, too.

No single way to slow living.

During the pandemic, the rise of slow living YouTube channels and blogs multiplied. Why? Because during this time, we were forced to slow down by government-imposed lockdowns and home quarantines.

But slow living is far from the romanticised version we see on many vlogs. Slow living is not about buying a cottage in the woods and filling it up with vintage thrift store finds and sticking to a certain color scheme.

Neither you nor your home have to look a certain way to live a slower, simpler life.

Guidelines are helpful when transitioning to a new lifestyle. But nobody should dictate the pace you should live your life - not me nor some influencer on social media.

To live slowly is to enjoy and savor every moment in your life, whatever that looks like for you. It's learning to embrace the ordinary and finding reasons to be grateful each day.

It's not only for people who have a lot of time.

If you are tired of living on the fast lane and want to live more slowly and deliberately, life won't make it happen for you.

You make slowing down happen. Right here, right now. No excuses.

I'm a mother, soon to be wife, and a full time business owner. But my life is slow because I choose to.

Here are some ways I live slowly intentionally no matter how busy life can be sometimes.

Having enough morning time to avoid rushing from one thing to the next
Monotasking and focusing on one thing at a time.
Setting boundaries and saying no when necessary
Sitting down to enjoy and savor my meal without distraction
Devoting time for self care and disconnecting from the digital world
Spending quality time with loved ones
Being present in the moment and not getting caught up in the distant past or imaginary future.
