Описание к видео Tibet, Mongolia and the Dalai Lama: A Special and Centuries-Old Relationship

The cultural, historical and religious ties binding Tibet, Mongolia and the Dalai Lama dates back to the time of Genghis Khan in the 13th century. Tibetan and the descendants of Genghis Khan developed a unique relationship of “Cho-yon”, priest-patron, where the Mongol’s military power protected Tibet from internal and external attacks and the Tibetan Lamas gave the Mongol chiefs moral and spiritual legitimacy to rule. The Mongol ruler Altan Khan gave the title Dalai (meaning "ocean of wisdom") to Sonam Gyatso, the third Dalai Lama, in 1577.

Asia Freedom Institute’s Freedom Hour session will highlight the special and centuries-old relationship between Tibet, Mongolia and the Dalai Lama which continues to this day.
