Loading CDC Data into Multi-Active Satellites and Status Tracking Satellites

In our ongoing series, our Managing Consultant Marc Winkelmann discusses a question from the audience:

"I am currently working with Data Vault 2.0 and encountering a challenge with our source system. Our source is a CDC-like landing zone where daily extracts are historized, and CUD - status is determined based on the primary key.

The issue arises with our hub, which uses a business key differing from the primary key of the source system. Consequently, multiple records can be active for the same business key on the same date.

I am seeking guidance on how to load sets of data into a multi-active satellite based on this CDC data. My initial approach involves creating a regular CDC satellite, (with or without delta-checking) and then creating a point-in-time (PIT) to achieve a similar outcome as a multi-active satellite based on full extracts.

Additionally, creating a status tracking satellite is also challenging. The CDC data indicates a record was deleted for a business key, but this does not necessarily mean the business key itself was deleted."
